Endurance competitions developed from the military necessary to move sure and fast within unknown areas. Within peacefull times people bet and compared like it is known from the rides Berlin-Wien or Strassbourgh-Rome in the last years of 19th century.

Shagya-Arabians were made for these tasks and compared to the small number of population there is a great number of successfull Shagya-Arabians among endurance competitions and championships, especially when performance over a great number of years is asked.
