Shagya-Araber founding mares

Purebred Arabian mares are noticed in green color.

Following names of foundation mares are the beginning of great mare families, for example:

CSERKESS = Tscherkesse;
ERDELY = Siebenbürgen
MOLDVAI = Moldau
MAGYAR = Hungarian / Ungarn
RADAUTZI = Radautz.

This names show where these founding mares came from. They already had great parts of Arabian blood.

The names were given in relation to the local area where the mares came from. They belonged to populations of riding horses from Transsylvania which were famous among cavalry in Europe, well known for noble, hard, dry horses with clear conformation and small, expressive heads.

Usually the number within the studbook was put in front of the name, it was a current number that was given in case of approval. For example there are six different MOLDVAI-families, each of which may be traced until today and which show up completely different anchestors. In order of their studbook-numbers these are 215, 253, 499, 638, 794 and 885 Moldvai.
